The hospital has 186 inpatient beds, employs over 2,000 team members, and offers a comprehensive array of services, including cancer care, cardiovascular care, neuroscience, advanced gastrointestinal care, and wound healing. We also maintain laboratory and imaging services, a pain clinic, 24/7 emergency care, community outreach, and education programs.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Chief HR Officer develops and executes a human resources approach that supports the needs of Duke Raleigh Hospital (DRAH) and Duke University Health System (DUHS) strategic priorities. This position collaborates with hospital leadership, Duke University HR, Duke Health HR, and various others to deliver a breadth of services to include talent acquisition, new employee orientation, learning and development, succession planning, employee relations, recognition, and retention. This role provides executive-level oversight to Employee Health, Chaplain Services, and Community Affairs and leads organizational culture optimization through a lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, helping Duke Health deliver on its pledge against racism.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, business, or a related discipline is required. A graduate degree is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of five years of senior HR executive/leadership experience required, sufficient to demonstrate expertise in the following areas:
Strategic Human Resources planning
Human Resources program development
Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging strategies
Project management, analysis, and organization
Teamwork and communication (interpersonal, verbal, and written)
Certification: Certification(s) in HR preferred
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Develop HR strategy that supports the overall business needs of DRAH and DUHS
Works closely with executive team to understand hospital needs and contributes to ongoing strategic planning and execution
Develops DRAH HR strategy that aligns with DUHS while meeting the unique needs of the entity
Leverages expertise of HR team to develop contemporary HR solutions to organizational problems
Leads the HR team through regular strategic planning and goal attainment efforts
Develop a strong relationship with talent acquisition & leads retention strategies to meet the talent needs of DRAH
Collaborates closely with DUHS's talent acquisition team, New Talent Strategies, to articulate the unique needs of DRAH and develops plans to support talent acquisition for clinical and non-clinical staff
Leads work to ensure every team member has a sense of belonging and is developed to reach their full potential
Works closely with Continuous Improvement, HR team, and other stakeholders to better understand drivers of turnover and develops plans to close gaps
Drives new ideas for retention and works with key stakeholders to achieve results
Maintains visibility throughout the hospital and ensures each team member feels seen and heard
Develop a strong succession plan for meeting the needs of the DRAH in a timely fashion
Partners with the DRAH Executive Team to develop a succession plan for the hospital
Establishes clear pathways to develop high performing & high potential team members
Leads work to develop a mentorship program to support the professional and personal needs of team members
Promote and sponsor Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging work at DRAH and DUHS
Develops a deep understanding of DEI and belonging at DRAH and DUHS using qualitative and quantitative data. Serves as executive sponsor for DEI and belonging initiatives
Provides leadership to the diversity, equity, and inclusion committee
Serves as a champion of the DUHS DEI initiative, Moments to Movement, and serves as a sponsor for this work at DRAH
Responsible for the optimum utilization of the Human Resources team
Leads the Human Resources team regarding established laws, policies, practices, and services
Provides leadership in building a team which will assume responsibility and accountability for achieving the mission, financial/operational objectives and quality initiatives while remaining compliant to regulatory standards
Establish clearly defined goals and objectives and ensure follow through in a timely manner
Examines and re-engineers operations and procedures in the spirit of continuous improvement by applying Lean principles as aligned with DRAH's operating model
STRUCTURE: The CHRO, Duke Raleigh Hospital, has a dual reporting relationship to the hospital President and the SVP and CHRO of Duke University Health System.
