This position is located within the Sterile Processing Service in the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System, the Villages Outpatient Center (TVOPC) in The Villages, FL. The incumbent serves as a Lead Medical Supply Technician working with the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) staff as a resource for daily operation routines and problem solving while assisting the Supervisors with oversight and compliance. Is competent in all areas of SPS including Decontamination, Preparation, Cool Room, Center Core, and endoscope reprocessing, SPS practices and processes are based on VHA Handbooks, Industry Standards (AAMI, AORN, IAHCSMM) and manufacturer guidelines. Understands references and how to research standards and guidelines for best practices. Visually inspects and tests instruments and equipment for function and quality per Quality Control in SPS. Assists in proactively assessing the instrument sets prior to release to the clinical service. Instruments that are not appropriate for use should be processed for replacement or repair as the Lead Technician partners with the Instrument Tech to ensure the instruments are managed appropriately. Checks for accuracy and cleanliness of Loaner sets that come into the service and should be accompanied with proper count sheets and manufacturer cleaning guidelines; the Lead Technician is tasked with assisting the Supervisor with this responsibility. Responsible for ensuring safety, quality, and staffing issues are properly communicated with the Supervisor so they can be researched and corrected. Equipment and machine failures occur within the department and can impact the staff's ability to complete work as assigned; the Lead Technician is responsible for following departmental procedures to have repairs completed and communicating the status of the repairs with the service. The Lead Technician is a critical role in the chain of command for SPS and requires staff to be independent self-starters who have the ability to foster front line staff with training and competence. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 0730-1600; 0930-1800; 1200-2030; 1530-2400; 1800-0230; 2400-0830 (Rotating Shifts, Holidays and Weekends). Telework: Not available.
