Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) for Veterans Health Administration (VHA). The incumbent performs segments of work pertaining to the decontamination, sterilization and inspections of reusable medical equipment (RME) at the full performance level for Medical Supply Technician/Sterile Processing. Receives contaminated critical and semi-critical reusable medical equipment (RME) in the decontamination area and may receive noncritical equipment as well. Removes soil, blood, tissue fragments, body fluids and other contaminants by wiping, soaking, rising and scrubbing. In addition, incumbent inspects packages for indications of proper sterilization, assembles basic sets and trays used throughout the medical center, including those used in the operating room. Responsible for reprocessing any RME following the local Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) drafted in accordance with manufacturer's written recommendations. Sterile Processing and Infection Control should be consulted when clarification of written instructions is needed. Performs and documents daily operational checks and records for all processing equipment. MSTs receive guidance from Lead MSTs and SPS management. Work Schedule: Various shifts, weekends, holidays (Position requires rotation of tours or assignments, shift work, (weekend and holiday on-call). May be called upon to help reprocess RME at different facilities, i.e. (Lake Baldwin, Viera, Daytona). Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
