Description The ACNA is responsible for competent care of patients in the Inpatient acute care setting. Removes saline lock and indwelling urinary catheter under the direction of the nurse (excludes patients with acute urinary retention, bladder outlet obstruction, urology consult or has had a urological, gynecological or perineal procedure/surgery performed. Performs bedside glucometry and application of oximetry. The ACNA is a vital member of the IP Acute Care Team and acts as a mentor and preceptor to new staff. Requirements
EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Current BLS issued through American Heart Association required. Current Certification as a Nursing Assistant required. Current CPI training preferred.
SKILLS: The ACNA must have critical thinking skills and have the ability to prioritize quickly. Must be able to pass skills competency checklist as required for skill advancement. Must have excellent communication skills. Computer skills required for accurate reflection in documentation of patient care given.
IN-HOUSE (IP Acute Care) EXPANDED DUTIES TRAINING:
EXPERIENCE: Six months in a healthcare related field required.
NATURE OF SUPERVISION: -Responsible to: Director/Manager, Nursing Unit.
ENVIRONMENT: - Bloodborne pathogens - B Works irregular hours. Multiple simultaneous activities around patient care. Exposure to infectious diseases and x-rays. Subject to varying unpredictable situations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to handle emergency/crisis situations, prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking. Has knowledge of and uses good body mechanics. Frequently lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients or equipment. Hearing and visual acuity must be within normal limits. Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination required.
