This is an opportunity to contribute to UDA platform which focuses on building and maintaining the Data/ETL pipelines on Big Data Platform (Hadoop) and related applications. Developer’s key responsibilities include integration of datasets from various data sources originating from RDBMS, NoSQL and Big Data technologies by leveraging the latest technologies/tools such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark (Scala or Python), NiFi and Kafka etc., Collaboration and participation in the design and implementation of various projects.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Demonstrates creative and innovative thinking with a focus on novel approaches to solving computational and analytic challenges.
Demonstrates proficiency with large-scale databases and database languages (SQL, Hadoop, HBase, etc.)
Demonstrates the ability to provide ETL production support of critical data loads.
Demonstrates proficiency with one or more scripting languages (bash/shell, Python, Perl, PHP, Ruby, etc.). Able to mentor fewer senior developers.
Demonstrates ability to design and develop complex database load and maintenance processes.
Demonstrates ability to organize, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work independently.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills along with excellent administrative and facilitation skills. Must be able to communicate difficult/sensitive information in a diplomatic and tactful way.
Works on projects of moderate to high complexity across two or more development environments. Works on multiple projects as a project team member. Considered a subject matter expert for a single business area or system. May coach more junior developers.
Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills. Able to determine tasks necessary to get a job done. Works independently.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Math, Business Systems or Information Systems required. Minimum of three years of experience in working with large scale databases along with ETL/ELT processes/tools or general programming languages.
OR Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Math, Business Systems or Information Systems required. Minimum of six years of IT experience in working with large scale databases along with ETL/ELT processes/tools or general programming languages.
OR In lieu of degree, minimum of 11 years of IT experience in working with large scale databases along with ETL/ELT processes/tools or general programming languages.
Must have experience translating business requirements to technical specifications, creating mapping documents, developing ETL routines and testing ETL jobs.
If a suitably experienced candidate cannot be found, applicants who meet the basic qualifications but possess fewer years of experience will be considered for hire at a lower level. Salary would commensurate with experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is typically performed in an office environment with occasional travel to different buildings. Mostly sedentary work interacting with computers and people. Requires ability to perform visual inspection and lifting less than 10 pounds.
