The Westchester County Department of Laboratories and Research has an immediate opening for a leadership role in their Public Health Division; responsible for the direction of the Microbiology and Bio-Defense Laboratories. The department is looking for candidates with a doctorate degree in Biological Sciences and experience supervising a clinical microbiology laboratory. A successful candidate will ensure satisfactory ratings in the New York State Department of Health proficiency testing program in the areas of bacteriology, diagnostic immunology, virology, mycology, mycobacteriology and parasitology and therefore will also need possession of a certificate of qualification from the NYSDOH in those same categories. The successful candidates will also oversee the quality assurance program to insure compliance with federal, state and local standards, rules, regulations and policies. Scope of Work (for illustrative purposes; not necessarily exhaustive):
Performs and/or supervises laboratory diagnosis procedures of bacteriological, serological, virological, mycological, mycobacteriological and parasitic infections leading to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases;
Issues final reports test results, insuring their accuracy, sufficiency and completeness;
Coordinates the design and assessment of validation studies for new laboratory testing procedures;
Implements policies for various programs within the Division and monitors compliance, ensuring that all safety procedures are followed;
Oversees laboratory audits to ensure compliance of mandated standards of state and federal regulatory agencies;
Maintains an organizational climate conducive to attracting, retaining and recruiting the personnel needed to accomplish the Division’s mission;
May conduct conferences, seminars and lectures for lay and professional groups.
