The Vice President for Operations serves as a member of the Campus Executive Team and is responsible, in concert with the campus leadership team, for the day-to-day operations of hospital facilities ensuring the Mission, Values and standards of care are delivered to our patients and community in order to maximize the performance of assigned areas and as well promote the organization’s position and image reflective of our exceptional healthcare services. This includes communicating, directing, planning, organizing, and financial monitoring to facilitate the delivery of cost effective, high quality health care services, in an ever changing and competitive healthcare environment.
The Vice President, Operations will provide leadership and direction for assigned areas and will be seen as a senior leader both internally across the origination and as well in the community we serve. This position will partner with leaders throughout SSM Health to drive initiatives, programs and services to enable the hospital to deliver on key initiatives and the SSM Health Mission. This is a visionary, proactive servant leader with the ability to obtain support and foster an organizational environment that encourages leaders to share leadership, ownership and responsibility and accountability to accomplish the vision of the organization. Strong management skills to identify opportunities to improve operating efficiency, growth, profitability, and compliance.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Participates in development of the organization’s vision, policies and short- and long-term objectives
Collaborates and partners with physicians, hospital executives and network executives to implement effective business plans.
Implements and assures adherence to policy decisions of SSM Health.
Effectively communicates at all levels within the organization.
Maintains knowledge of industry trends and recommends cost effective and efficient solutions to issues and opportunities
Demonstrated success in leading process improvement initiatives in a tertiary facility including the use of Lean and CQI principals
Develops and enhances relationships with community, other publics, organizations and groups that expand the effectiveness of the mission.
Participates in developing regional policies, procedures and directives as requested and communicates appropriately to ensure compliance is achieved.
Effectively collaborates with regional support functions of nursing, finance, planning, quality and human resources to achieve successful outcomes for the hospitals, service lines, network and system.
Assures engagement, satisfaction and alignment of employees, physicians and executives to assure effective implementation of strategic and operational plans within the assigned entity.
Creates an environment in which effective communication and responsiveness to customer needs are personal priorities. Provides timely resolution and response to customer complaints, concerns and suggestions.
Participates with regional operations council leadership team in the implementation of strategic business plans for assigned entity.
Effectively analyzes complex issues/problems and lead/influence individuals and groups in developing and implementing successful resolution tactics. Uses highly effective communication and presentation skills accompanied by the ability to analyze and present data to influence behavior, stimulate innovation, promote best practices and drive organizational change.
Participates in the development and implementation of the strategic, financial and human resource planning process for the entity.
Translates system, regional, hospital and service line initiatives into action plans at the hospital and departmental level with appropriate performance measures.
Assumes fiscal responsibility through budgetary planning and implementation.
Mentors leaders and management in career growth and actively cooperates in succession planning efforts at the System level with special emphasis on retaining and recruiting a diverse work force.
Maintains knowledge and achieves compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements, licensure, accreditation requirements, record procedures and internal controls.
Demonstrates and imparts the mission, philosophy, values and vision of SSM Health in daily activities and into operational functions, processes and environment. Works effectively as a team member in a dynamic executive environment where collegiality, subsidiary and sharing responsibility is required and highly valued within a matrix organization. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Seven years or more of accomplished healthcare leadership in a large, complex, and integrated healthcare setting required.
Master's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or related field is preferred.
Outpatient experience is preferred.
Superior leadership skills, particularly in cultivating a high-performance leadership team, and in developing and maintaining excellent partnerships with physicians and staff. Must listen actively and accurately, encouraging input from others; provides clear directions.
Experience in managing change initiatives. A high sense of urgency and experience operating effectively in a fast-paced environment requiring the skill to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
The ability to set and maintain high standards of performance in a collegial environment, holding people accountable for achieving deliverable metrics and in doing so, one who encourages open dialogue and delegates authority and accountability comfortably.
