Tissue Recovery Services Manager – Translife – Orlando Florida Hospital Orlando seeks to hire a Tissue Recovery Services Manager who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ. Facility Profile: Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,107-bed Florida Hospital Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. Florida Hospital Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. Work Hours/Shifts: 8a – 5p; M-F Job Summary: The Tissue Recovery Services Manager provides leadership and sets goals, improves and manages performance, and achieves established outcomes for the Tissue Recovery division. Utilizes the principles of quality assessment and performance improvement as it pertains to the tissue procurement environment to create strategies to increase availability. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required: - Knowledge of the tissue donation process
- Knowledge of Federal and State laws and regulations governing tissue donation
- Knowledge of American Association of Tissue Bank (AATB) accreditation standards
- Ability to manage a cohesive, multidisciplinary clinical team of tissue procurement technicians and perform tissue recovery technician responsibilities as needed
- Ability to communicate complex clinical information in a concise manner and implement change in a positive manner
- Ability to develop and maintain trust-based relationships with tissue processors, medical examiners/coroners, hospital professionals and donor families
- Ability to work collaboratively with fellow TransLife leaders and leaders in every hospital it serves to ensure the effectiveness of tissue donation practices
- Ability to understand and utilize clinical tissue recovery data to identify and implement strategies to increase the number of tissue donors
- Ability to anticipate potential changes in the national tissue donation regulatory environment and position TransLife to adapt and comply with these changes in the time frames identified
- Ability to analyze tissue recovery program financial data and create efficiencies that positively impact the availability and condition of transplantable tissues

- Healthcare marketing (Preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in business or health related field OR
- Associate’s degree AND seven years of experience in a donation related field AND
- Five years of experience in an organ or tissue donation related field AND
- Two years of experience in managing employees
- Management position with an organ, tissue or eye donation program (Preferred)
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required: - Valid Florida Driver’s License, Class D or E, and driving record in accordance with Florida Hospital policy
- Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) certification from the American Board of Tissue Banking (Preferred)
Job Responsibilities: Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital’s Core Values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program - Manages all aspects of Trans Life’s tissue donation services in each of the associated hospitals. Manages tissue donation services to all non-Florida hospitals in multiple counties. Evaluates staff’s ability to meet regulations and AATB standards. Ensures compliance with national performance expectations and goals and creates plans for improvement with the training manager. Ensures standards of practice are achieved by all tissue procurement staff.
- Performs duties such as triaging tissue recovery teams in response to referrals, conducting problem solving to address barriers to donation and triaging tissue recovery teams in response to referrals as clinical activity dictates.
- Maintains relationships with all TransLife tissue processors. Recovers tissue from the most number of donors in a manner that complies with all national and state regulations and standards. Assesses the terms of all tissue processor contracts at least annually and makes recommendations to TransLife leaders for improvement.
- Manages discard rates with tissue processors and ensures timely chart completion. Ensures timely and accurate clinical reporting and monthly closeout of data.
- Develops and evaluates the effectiveness of policies and procedures for medical evaluation, recovery, and documentation of tissue donation according to TransLife policies and in compliance with AATB, CMS, FDA and State of Florida laws, policies and guidelines.
- Oversees weekly data entry for the Tissue Recovery Division. Performs monthly quality assurance review of tissue data to ensure accuracy and timely completion of statistical reports.
- Develops training curriculum for new tissue procurement staff. Ensures consistency of practice and identifies teaching opportunities to improve tissue optimization strategies.
- Deploys tissue procurement technicians to conduct education programs with physicians, nurses, social workers, pastoral care and other health care professionals about all aspects of the tissue donation process.
- Monitors and analyzes data to increase the number of tissue donors and transplantable tissues and improve patient safety. Uses existing knowledge of industry data sources to benchmark Trans Life’s performance in comparison to other tissue procurement organizations and engages tissue procurement staff in ongoing quality improvement initiatives and action plans to achieve established performance measures.
- Participates on the TransLife Quality Committee. Seeks opportunities to collaborate with tissue processers and others by proposing research projects to improve organ donation and transplantation.
